Guide to Decluttering

The first step to a fabulous interior starts with decluttering your space. For most people, they take one look at their space and immediately they’re hit with the thought, “I have no idea where to begin”.  And then they walk away. If that scenario is you, take comfort in knowing there is a strategy to decluttering. Check out our cozy guide to Decluttering!

  1. Identify the Area In Your Home to Declutter - Are you looking to declutter your closet, spare room or garage?

  2. Make Note of Your Goals or Intentions  - how do you envision yourself using this room or space? Spare guest room? Office space?  Identifying your intentions will help you determine what items you should keep or not.

  3. Grab the Necessary Supplies -  Boxes, garbage bags, containers! Prepare all the necessary supplies you will need to get the job done.

  4. Separate your items into 3 to 4 Piles - Pick a section in your room to start building your 3 to 4 piles: Keep, Donate and Trash (Optional 4th pile: Storage). This will help you sort out the items in which you actually have use for and what can be thrown away or donated. The storage pile should have the least items. You want to use this pile for items that are seasonal or not intended for daily use.

  5. Just start! - Yes, it’s that simple, just start.  The first item you see, pick it up and start sorting. You’ll be half way through in no time.
